*Note – This method of rooting currently doesn’t allow you to flash new kernels (so no overclocking) but you can flash new ROMs. If you haven’t done OTA update to HBOOT 1.50, please follow the method outlined here instead.
This new rooting method from HTC works on software version 2.08.651.2 and later using HTC’s unlock method. You can also do it on all platforms including Windows, Linux, and Mac.
Before we begin, check the software number on your phone by going to Setting
Here’s how to root your HTC Evo 4G on HBOOT 2.18 with S-OFF!
Step 1. Check the Software number on your HTC Evo 4G. If you have 4.67.651.3 or later, this method will work. If you have an older version, try the easier root method, don’t need to do this.
Step 2. Take the battery out and back in. Then boot into bootloader by holding down Volume Down and Power button together.
Step 3. You should see that your phone says “LOCKED (OOW)”, HB
So, you want to install custom ROMs on your HTC Evo 4G LTE? Well, you will need to unlock the bootloader and install TWRP recovery.
This will work on Android ICS 4.0.3, 4.0.4 and Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1, 4.1.2.
Before we begin, if you want to save personal settings, apps, SMS text messages, we highly recommend you to root your HTC Evo 4G LTE first (non-unlock bootloader method) if you are on software version 1.22.651.1 or less. Then use GMail for contacts, SMS Text Backup app for backing

Based on Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread, the DigitalKarma ROM brings you a highly tweaked Sense 1.0 to you brings in lots of stuff from latest Sense 5.0 including apps, weather icons, wallpapers, ringtones, notifications, and more.
The heart of DigitalKarma ROM features Karma Utility app that allows you to easily modify UI features like your battery, status bar, and more.

Based on stock Sense, MeanBean ROM brings you goodies like overclocking up to 1.8Ghz, battery saving feature to enable only one core when screen is off, power toggles, long-press back to kill, and other goodies.

For Sprint and VirginMobile HTC Evo 3D ROM of the week, check out InBred ROM!
Based on Android 4.0.3 ICS and Sense 3.6, InBred ROM brings you a nice red-theme along with your favorite HTC Sense or Apex launcher. You will be able to also tweak the UI with its Inbred Tweaks app, which is very similar to LeeDroid Tweaks but a little bit different.
Inbred ROM does come with an AROMA graphical installer that allows you to choose Sense or Senseless launcher and some additional customization you can expect during installation including the ability to choose Sprint or VirginM

Some notable feature include CPU overclocked to 1.5Ghz, GPU 3D overclocked to 300Mhz (you can also overclock up to 320Mhz), GPU 2D overclocked to 266Mhz, full Beats by Dre integrated, Dolby Mobile, Camera Mods (HDR, panorama, 1250 ISO, front 720P HD recording), 5×4 Rosie, and a ton more.

For this week’s ROM of the week, check out ThunderShock ROM for HTC Evo 4G.
Based on Android 2.3.7, the ThunderShock ROM is based off an older CyanogenMod build but with lots of enhancements added.
Some notable features include Jelly Bean wallpapers, App2SD, Seeder app (enable it for faster UI), native wifi tethering, and performance/network/battery optimizations.
Best of all, ThunderShock ROM has everything working out of the box (as you can expect from older CyanogenMod base), so you can use it as a daily driver.
