Mean ICS ROM for HTC Evo 3D! [Lean And Mean]

For this week, we’ve got another great ICS ROM for your HTC Evo 3D, Mean ICS ROM. Many of you probably remember flashing the Gingerbread version of Mean ROM, which was nearly flawless.

Well, now it’s available in ICS for your HTC Evo 3D (Sprint CDMA ONLY) with full dual-core performance during screen-on and single-core underclock for screen-off for the best performance and battery life. Overclocking is not yet available (until HTC releases kernel sources) but this will certainly be much faster than most Gingerbread ROMs plus you get ALL the benefits of ICS.

I personally think Mean ICS ROM, MikVirgin ICS ROM, and Viper ICS ROM are currently the best ICS ROMs for your Sprint Evo 3D so go ahead, give one of them a try and let me know which one you like the best. And more coming next week!

FAQ

Q: Bootloops on HBOOT 1.50 S-ON?
A: For all ICS ROMs, if you get bootloops, just Google for “AnthraX-htcleak-rls1.zip” and install it in CWM to get rid of bootloop.

So out of the three ICS roms you listed, which do you personally like the best?

  2. salania says:

I saw there was someone already that had an issue where they were stuck on HTC boot screen. I have the same issue and I have, tried to flash the anthrax kernel. Still no success. Your recovery program will not allow me to boot into recovery because I do not have, s off so I am using clockwork. Any suggestions?

    • HTC Evo 4G Hacks says:

You will need to get S-Off (use the wire trick) to install ICS ROMs properly.

      • hnosair says:

If you have S-ON, you need to extract boot.img and flash it with fastboot after flashing the rom in recovery. That’s how I got out of htc boot screen after installing CM7.

          fastboot flash boot boot.img

  3. Wifi does not work on this ROM. I should say WiFi teather does not work. Also I find this ROM

  4. Mike says:

After several attempts, I finally rooted and upgraded to Mean ICS and I love it. I really don’t know why Sprint just don’t send out ICS to everyone. Thanks for making this website and showing us how to do it.

  5. Gary says:

I noticed the 3D camera feature does not seem to work.

  6. Michael says:

since i installed i cannot get my phone to connect to my pc. i will charge when connected but when i go to settings- connect to pc it just says settings has quit. i also cannot get the music app to find my music that is on my sd card. is there anyway to fix this.

  7. William Torres says:

Hey Thanks for the info will definitely be passing by the mean team page to donate but quick question I have a problem that it doesn’t come with google play, it comes with play movies and I want to down load some apps, so I found an apk of the app store and uploaded it but once i tried to down load am app from the store it abruptly closed and then can open again, is there a way I can get the app store on this rom?

  8. rob says:

    tether does not work

    • Adam says:

When you are using the WiFi Tether make sure to use the followings settings: Change Device Profile:Generic ICS, Routing Fix:Checked, and MMS Clamping:Checked. If those do settings still do not work then upgrade to MeanROM ICS 2.4 and use the same setting. Worked like a charm on my Evo 3D HBoot 1.5 with S-OFF.

  9. Gemma says:

Can i flash this rom on my phone which have older firmware? I got S-off using Juopunotbear, and suddenly it also changed my firmware.

  10. Jason says:

Everything is cool about this ROM and I like it, but Google play doesn’t work. I have even downloaded the APK and it won’t work. Any ideas?

  11. Craig111 says:

There was a folder labeled Mean ICS Rom on root of sd. I flashed the beats and tweaks rom inside this folder. Didnt seem to do anything for me….any ideas or did anyone else experience this?

  12. Juan G says:

Thanks for the great review and info. I downloaded, installed and currently running on my 3d. Is it just me or is anyone else noticing that the battery life on ICS MeanRom isn’t nearly as good as the GB MeanRom. I know that the GB rom was more polished but I thought ICS was supposed to be less power hungry. As a side note I’ve already did a battery wipe and I’m not really seeing battery like what I did with GB. I would go a day and a half with the GB and I’m getting about 14hrs on ICS. Thoughts?

    • HTC Evo 4G Hacks says:

Did you try the ROM for at least a day? Losing battery after a fresh ROM install is normal.

      • Juan G says:

Thanks for the quick reply. I’ll give it a day. Another unusual problem to report. I have my 3D in an otterbox. If I put the case on the phone the phone will lock up and won’t wake from sleep mode and I wind up having to pull the battery out. Now I’ve had the phone out of the case and haven’t run into this prob. It may be unrelated or it may be possible that the case is causing some sort of interference that hasn’t been reported. Just throwing it out there in case others are on the same boat.

  13. Craig111 says:

    Hi Max….question.
I have noticed that the current version of MeanICS is 2.4
I want to update to that version from this version.
What is the best and most effective way to do so.
Because it is an update from the same ROM, do i need to wipe anything or can i simply flash on top of old version?

  14. JASON GARDNER says:

I installed TeamGenesisROM3D ICS ROM for HTC Evo 3D! [Beats][Sprint] and Mean ICS ROM for HTC Evo 3D! [Lean And Mean] on my rooted HTC EVO 3D with S-OFF. I have the AnthraX-htcleak-rls1.zip installed. I wanted the ability to overclock my rom. The problem I am having is when I connect my phone to my computer since I installed either of these roms I can’t connect via USB mass storage. I have to mount usb from recovery in order to do this. Is there a way to fix this. I read the comments and I found a couple of people with the same issue, but no replies. Please help. Thank you.

    • HTC Evo 4G Hacks says:

You have S-OFF? Then don’t use Anthrax, the developer does not update that kernel so I don’t recommend it anymore.

  15. Craig111 says:

I am having such a hard time trying to flash leedroid tweaks to MeanICS ROM v2.6. Does anyone have a link to a zip file that will work on this ROM. I had it before on previous version of MeanICS.

I just dont get it….someone help if you can

    • Craig111 says:

I figured it out….starting at v2.5, they added Beats Audio to the ROM. This doesnt work hand in hand with LeeDroid Tweaks, thus putting it into boot loop. I downgraded to 2.4 again and re-flashed LeeDroid Tweaks. All is perfect again, the DPS Manager is a way better solution for your phone then Beats….trust!

  16. I have 1.5 with S-ON
I used these steps while in a bootloop. In short I had to install the rom using usb fastboot.

I used the flash image gui app to load the kernel
    Removed the battery
    Power on holding volume down
Fastboot – plug in usb cord – choose bootloader – Fastboot USB

    – Used steps how to install kernel / rom on hboot 1.5 http://tinyurl.com/3b65d98
    – *** IMPORTANT find boot.img from the rom of your choice and place it in the rootevo3dnew folder

Clear cache dalvik factory reset ect ect
Install zip from SD card – choose rom
    Reboot

In short you have to load the rom using USB FASTBOOT WITH THE boot.img from your rom in the roorevo3dnew folder
It worked. After hours of crap. Im upgrading to the lte phone its easier to root and install roms
    Good luck

Can i put this “Mean ICS ROM for HTC Evo 3D” on my virgin mobile phone? (still a HTC evo V4g with 3d camera)
Which ROM is better Mean ICS ROM for HTC Evo 3D or MikVirgin ICS ROM?

  18. Its like you learn my mind! You seem to grasp a lot about
this, such as you wrote the guide in it or something.
I think that you just can do with some % to force the
message home a little bit, however instead of that, that is great blog.
A fantastic read. I will certainly be back.
