For those of you who want to unroot your HTC Evo 3D GSM back to complete factory OR you want to downgrade your HBOOT to 1.49.0007 so you can get S-OFF, you will definitely want to change your CID to HTC__001 or VODAP001 (For Vodafone Evo 3D).

What is CID and why change it?

You see, CID is a number designated to the specific version of Evo 3D GSM you have. For example, there’s a different CID for Asia, Europe, etc…etc…

By changing your CID to HTC__001 or VODAP001, you will be able to easily run “any” RUU to perform unrooting. Since certain RUUs are very hard to find, changing CID allows you to use any region’s RUU. Just think of it as a lock HTC put it on your phone (which it essentially is).

To do this you will need an unlocked bootloader, if you don’t have an unlocked bootloader, please follow the Evo 3D GSM method FIRST!

You can type this to find out the current CID of your phone:
fastboot oem readcid

For Unbranded, type:
fastboot oem writecid HTC__001

For Vodafone, type:
fastboot oem writecid VODAP001

You might get a failure message, don’t worry it’s normal, just check that your CID has changed by typing:
fastboot oem readcid

I got the same thing, Evo 3d 4g VM. It states it cannot find the folder or something, how do you fix? Do you a forum or something. I’m also trying to down grade my Hboot but I am having no luck doing so, as I don’t have access to a linux computer.

        • pizza says:

I’m also having this problem, I have the VM HTC EVO 3D unlocked and rooted at hboot 1.57.0000 with S-ON, I’ve tried to change the cid with windows fastboot and ubuntu linux as well, get the same problem trying to change the cid. It just stays at SPCS__002.

      Wanted to post again here.

Did you ever get it figured out? I am on the HTC EVO LTE and having the same issue. Everytime I try to change it, it says failed, and when I readcid it says SPCS_001. It will not change at all. I even tried the old school HEX edit method, and still nothing. Phone is rooted. I tried it with bootloader locked and unlocked, and nothing. Any advice is appreciated.

my phone is not working due 2 some software problem i think it can be booted anybody knows about this call me this is cdma phone my no. is 09159151515

  11. fred says:

can i use this step to downgrade from hboot 153.777 s-off(wire trick s-off) to hboot 1.49

  12. Virginia Ramunda-Marty says:

One way to get 1.53.007 S-OFF is (so far) using JuopunutBear in a Virtual Linux Machine or Linux OS since the windows version for their famous wire trick is no longer available thanks to a lot of whiners who complained too much without reading the instructions and ruined it for the rest of us.
    READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!
