How to Install New ROM on HTC Evo 3D!

Once you’ve rooted your Evo 3D, you will want to backup your rooted ROM then install new ROMs to try out.

Why install new ROMs?

Well, it’s been only couple days since the permanent root method has been available to the public but there’s already over 10 custom ROMs you can get for the Evo 3D.

For one example, the MikG 3D ROM comes with a hacked Sprint hotspot app and USB tethering, that’s something you can’t do on a stock rooted ROM.

Other ROMs will also let you customize to your liking such as overclocking to 2Ghz and more.

So, here’s how to install new ROM on HTC Evo 3D for your reference:

Try using the twin recovery the link is below. Download then move to the root it’ll look like this PG86IMG-twrp-shooter-1.0.2.zip
Then chop that down to PG86IMG.ZIP
after that POP out the battery n turn the phone on to bootloader and it’ll ask u orbit wanna update. Say yes n u are done dude ;p
          GOOD LUCK BUD

          • Terry says:

Okay I am so new to this. Am I putting the PG86IMG.ZIP file on my SD card root, or the rootevo3d file that is on my hard drive? I am a newbie at this.

            Thanks for all your help

          • david says:

            Just the PG86IMG.ZIP

          • david says:

Oops sorry to the root SD card. Then go to the bootloader and it will ask if u want to update. Click yes. After that is done make sure to erase it otherwise it will ask if u want to update everytime u go to the bootlaoder menu

      • Terry says:

Okay so I followed the above instructions. I see that this time it did say that PG86IMG loaded. Does anythig happen after that? It went back to the screen that first comes up when you start by pressing vol down and pwr key.

        • david says:

now make sure that the su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip file is on ur SD where u can find it then u go to recovery, unzip from SD, go down to that file n click power to load the super user and u are dine dude 😉

Download the clockwork recovery. You can use Rom Manager to download it. Once it’s done, turn on your disk drive on your phone. Go to E:\clockworkmod\download\download.clockworkmod.com\recoveries to find the file “recovery-clockwork-4.0.1.5-shooter” and move out to the rootevo3d folder. Then boot into Fastboot USB mode. Type in cmd. Once it’s open, type in cd \rootevo3d, then press enter, then type in this command line: fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-4.0.1.5-shooter.img. Then press enter.

  7. Eddie says:

Can you install 2 ROMs at once or do you have to uninstall the current one then install the one you wanted to?

  8. Seven Michael says:

    Hello,

I just rooted and have installed ROM Manager. I then used ROM Manager to install the Viper ROM, and realized it’s like starting all over by having to set up wifi, e-mail, etc. So, I then tried clockwork to just restore my “data” (not my “system”). Now, all my data, wallpaper, contacts, etc. are back; but, I can’t see any of the Viper apps.

I’m totally new to this, so I have a couple of basic questions:

    (1) Can I have more than one ROM installed and operating at one time ?

    (2) Once I install a new ROM, can I restore my “data”… or, do I have to set up everything all over again with each new ROM.

Any help on this will be greatly apppreciated.

    Thanks !

    • HTC Evo 4G Hacks says:

I would probably use Titanium backup instead, the ROM Manager backup should only be used for restoring the whole ROM when something goes wrong, hope that helps!

  9. david says:

Go to the market and download “MY BACKUP FOR ROOT”
that was the easiest I found to back up and restore all my apps and data.

  10. Matthew says:

Hey anyone having any issues with assert fails when installing roms? It says:
    assert failed: getprop(“ro.product.device”) == “shooter”
    E:Error in /sdcard/lost.dir/zips/synergy-3dvo_rls1_08-21-11(Nightly).zip
    (Status 7)
    Installation aborted.

Im guessing this means its checking that I have root access, I rooted my evo 3d following the specific instructions to a tee, and I have superuser and clockwork recovery 4.0.1.5 shooter installed so I am at a loss as to what to do. Should I just not flash new roms?

  11. Jorge says:

I can’t install any room, they give the following error: assert failed: getprop(“ro.product.device”) == “shooter” (I copied the error from other device, so if shooter is not the device name, sorry 🙂 )
How can I fix this? I rooted the phone with the revolutionary method. Do I need to do something else before flashing other roms?

  12. H3RO says:

Im just wondering what does clockwork recovery actually do? I have superuser on my phone and clockwork but dont know exactly how they work. I did also get the android wifi but internet takes a while to load other pages besides google. I have to stop n start a few times before it can actually run desent. I was using pdanet before but rooted my phone to be able to use my PS3. The also phone to laptop to PS3 were just to slow. Also how do u remove the stock apps that sprint loaded to your phone.
