I swore to myself last week that I would never go back to a Sense-based ROM but after trying the latest version of Mean ROM, I am convinced there’s still hope. The Mean ICS ROM is very stock-like yet gives you a performance boost over the stock ROM that you will actually notice.

Notably, the Mean ROM comes with 1.7Ghz overclocking when your screen is on with full dual-cores. And when your screen is off, it automatically runs on just 1-core underclocked. Now, this is a great combination for most users to get the most performance out of your Evo 4G LTE while saving battery life. The best part about it is that the user doesn’t have to do anything like install SetCPU app, it’s all built-in from the get-go.

I do notice that my Evo 4G LTE is very zippy over the stock ROM and also the browser/apps don’t redraw themselves like it did before. There’s a TON of features on this ROM I will not list (you can check out the XDA link below for all) but definitely one of the best ROMs out right now.

If you are looking for a good, solid ROM that’s based off Sense, definitely try the Mean ROM and let me know how it goes for you!

hello mat and thank you for your website.

I’m having some problems installing this ROM. I went to the developers website to get the latest version, V53. I did a factory reset since I had the Viper 4G ICS ROM from one of your previously posts. Now my phone turns on but the screen remains black. I’m able to get into the recovery and fortunately I did my backup before so I was able to go back to Viper. I tried installing this ROM again and the same thing happened.
I’m going to flash the ROM with the Kernel together just in case there in an incompatibility with the Viper’s and perhaps it’s not installing itself. I’ll try this and post again. Please if you know the way to fix this before please help me and those having the same problem.
    Thank you

Noob move. just unlocked and rooted and I think I flashed an incomplete CM rom b/c all I can get is A really cool CM boot screen but nothing more. When I go to recover and even factory reset all that comes up is TWRP. IDK what to do frm here. pls help

      • Cyprus says:

Go back a few steps. Re-install the ROM from the recovery options.
Factory reset – clear cache ect
        install ROM from SD card.
        good luck.

    Yessss!!!!

Finally I was able to make it work. Yes, it was a problem with the kernel.

For those having the same problem as I did:
Once you open the MeanROM zip folder, go to the folder called sdcard, then open the folder MeanROM-ICS. if you read the .readme.txt file ill tell you with kernel to use. So i used the kernel-mean-1728 which is the 1.728 Ghz. Move it to the sd card and then flash the zip file.

    • RJ says:

is there any reason you chose to go with the 1728 vice the 1809? i’m attempting to follow the steps you took, but the reboot is taking some time……..hopefully this one works.

problem solved for all that’s having trouble with this Rom, just get the latest version of flashimage.GUI apk. I got mine from blackmarket alpha and I got blackmarket alpha from 4shared.com but just open flashimage GUI and browse for your Rom then flash from there. then reboot to recovery and wipe factory reset then wipe cache then wipe dalvik then install Rom and all set it works like a charm. flashimage GUI forces kernel in place and you won’t have any problems its how I flash all my ROMs it works great!

Hello…Im coming from a cm jelly bean ROM and from time to time jump back to sense. Im S on so I generally use Flash Image GUI to load my kernel, boot back to recovery factory reset and flash the new ROM. Works wonderful except Im having some trouble with this ROM. I can successfully flash the kernel but when I boot back to TWRP factory reset and flash this ROM, it appears to crash TWRP and about 20 seconds in the TWRP load screen comes back and hangs. Has anyone else experienced this? Im running an older version of TWRP v2.1.8. I have success getting back to other sense and cm roms but id love to give this one a shot.

  11. mikeb says:

Md5 file is the Rom make sure u successfully transfer the file to ur device when transferring from computer just try again, but I came across a few roms in the past that didn’t take but I just moved on to another Rom. Good luck!

  12. Matt says:

Hey – do you know how to update the version of Google Now on this rom?

Also, I’ve tested some other Roms out – this one kills them in battery life.

    • RJ says:

What are you doing that gets you good battery life? i’ve been running this ROM for a couple days and my battery is dying faster than ever. i came to work with 90% battery and within 6 hours my phone was down to 20% and it was in standby the entire time.

  13. Emanuel says:

Does anybody know if this ROM will be updating for Jelly Bean anytime soon?

  14. inzer890 says:

have installed 6.5 version, and totally delighted with the rom. It’s fast like lightning in all the heavy games, it gives a REAL boost in comparison with stock JB 4.1.1 in games. Itreface, probably, just a little-little bit less responsive, than previously tested Cyanogen 10.0.0 (JB 4.1.2); but, I suppose, it’s the legacy of Sense/Senseless roms.
Mean v6.5 – provides full functional of stock applications/hw abilities, and work perfectly-stable.
The only thing that spoils the impression – is battery life (using kernell 1728 = 1.728GHz); I don’t torture the phone, but it seems, it can’t stay alive for 24hours without charging, even in standby mode (joking, but closely to the truth).
Advice everybody to test this one and make your own conclusions.
Looking forward to try JB-based MeanRom.

Follow these instructions and you should be able to Upgrade to your new ROM in mere minutes:

First *** Back-up all user apps (white labels), messages, WIFI, Bluetooth, etc data (Usually Green or Yellow Labels) with Titanium Back-up

Second, once you’ve downloaded your ROM to your Downloads folder on your SD card (internal only) install and run Flash Image GUI. From there you must find the ROM, let the program parse the data and search the file for the Kernel, then hit the Flash button on the bottom.

Next Reboot your phone into recovery (TWRP), once there find and following files and add to zip in this exact order:

    1.) smw6180_superwipe.zip
2.) Your downloaded Rom (CM10.1 ROM)
    3.) gapps-jb-20121212-signed.zip

Once complete, just hit reboot and, skip past the Google account confirmations, install Titanium-Back-up.apk and restore your apps, then enjoy your new Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean ROM.
This same process will work when converting back to a different Android 4.1 ROM .

    Notes:
    * To get to “Developer options in CM10.1 ROM (needed for Titanium Backup), go to settings menu, the dev options aren’t available the click “about phone” > scroll to the bottom and click “Build Number about 7 times” until you see a notification appear

I just rooted my 4g LTE with TWARP Recovery but when I try to flash a Rom once I reboot my phone reboots to the HTC screen but that’s it. I’ve tried clearing cache and delvik cache and re-flashing the Rom’s but the same results the HTC screen without the red developer writing at the bottom. When I had my regular 4G phone I flashed Rom’s all the time. Does anyone have any suggestions. No reason to be rooted if I can’t flash Roms.
