4.54.651.1 OTA Rooted ROM for Rooted HTC Evo 4G!

I swear every time there’s an OTA software update from HTC, people start going crazy and start trying to update their rooted phone and mess it up. ┬áPlease don’t do that and new software updates often are not that great anyways.

With that said, HTC released 4.54.651.1 OTA update, this comes with security fix and some minor fixes but it’s definitely not worth losing root then updating to this.

But for those of you who must try it, you can install a rooted version of the stock ROM by flashing the file below without losing root and the goodies:

you can use (superuser-3.0.6-efgh signed) after HTC 4.54.651.1 update.Ive been using this for a few days now works perfect. There is a need to factory reset and re-root to get it to work properly. New Superuser works fine with no problems. If you just reflash the new SU over existing SU it will act weird and cause to many problems. Hope this helps.

OK. Here’s what I understand. If I download and flash my HTC EVO 4G unrooted stock, standard from Sprint phone with 4.54.651.1, I do NOT have to root my phone and this will work on my unrooted stock, standard phone from Sprint. IS THAT CORRECT? If I follow your instructions in the video shown below, I should be able to enjoy the benefits of this ROM, CORRECT? I have never rooted a phone before and I am hesitant about doing it although I would like someday to do it but maybe this will give me experience and confidence in your procedures to someday root my phone. DO I NEED TO BACKUP my apps and contacts? I have a 8gb sd card with pics and videos and this should not affect those, CORRECT? I just want to ensure if I do this, I do it right and not brick my phone as it is only 5 months old and I have had no problems with it as yet. Thank you for understanding and please advise me on these concerns. Thank you sir.

You understand wrong. You have to be rooted in order to change roms on your phone and if your afraid of rooting then you shouldnt do it! You can brick your phone if you dont know what your doing so being hesitant of doing so should tell you to stay away.

THANK YOU for giving me back Sense. (I LOVED cm7.1, but could neither figure the more difficult process of restoring Sprint VVM, nor live without it, so I went back to the old boyfriend of SENSE. The devil you know is better than the one you don’t. At least I can bloat freeze, right!? (and wifi tether, etc. WHoohoo!)

I installed this and I like it , but I can’t get or send MMS messages, I also can’t access ##3282# to change some settings, any ideas? Thanks

I have a quick question, my brother has a unrooted Evo with the updated firmware 4.54.651.1, is there a root for this firmware or can I use the original Gingerbread root?
