For this week’s ROM of the week, check out Digital Karma ROM for your rooted HTC Evo 4G! (11/19/2012 – Now updated to Version 8, many people have claimed this is “the best stable ROM” on the Evo 4G).  This ROM is very stable, runs Gingerbread and “much modded” Sense 1.0.  I know many of you want ICS and Jelly Bean for your Evo 4G but the fact is, there’s no camera drivers nor 4G drivers for ICS or Jelly Bean so if you want the most stable ROMs, my best advice is to stick with Gingerbread.

But no worries, the Digital Karma ROM has a ton of features, great battery life, and you will surely revitalize your phone with it.

So, give it a test drive and let me know what you think!

UPDATE:
V8: Notable features include EXT4 Support,Underworld 0.8 SBC No-Havs Kernel,, Jelly Bean font, wallpapers & audio ringtone, DSP Manager, Sony Bravia Engine for better picture quality, Volume Rocker Skip Track Mod, 30 step Media Volume increment mod, V6 SuperCharger, Hacked 3G Sprint Hotspot, and some more.

Just rooted my phone today, so I’m looking for a great ROM, and I think I found it! I will let you guys know how it goes! Thanks bunches!! xoxo

    • Jessica says:

So I’ve been using Digital Karma for two days now, and being my first ROM flash, it’s pretty neat. I love all the little tweaks you can do to everything, it really let’s you personalize your phone. It comes with LOADS of random apps, lots of new notification sounds, and scenes. The only con I would have to list is that the task/notification bar at the top always seems to come down delayed by about 1 second. But that’s it! I will continue to update here if I find out anything else! Thanks guys!! xoxo

      • themach1ne says:

Chicks putting ROMs on their phones is a titty flash which is cool and all but I prefer the kind I can motorboat ;>

Update! I’ve had this ROM for almost two weeks now, and I can honestly say that I don’t like it. It has frozen twice, so I had to pull the battery. It has rebooted half-way to the fireworks screen twice by itself, so I had to pull the battery those two times as well. 4 battery pulls in less than two weeks? No bueno. Also, like I said in my previous update, it’s a bit slow. I had to install a CPU app just get rid of all the lag…Is anyone else having any problems like this? Is there a better, more smooth running ROM out there??? I don’t want to be flashing my phone all the time like a crazy person 😉

        • Jessica says:

2 more battery pulls in two days [sigh]. Is there another kernel that works well with this? Does anyone even read these comments??

          • HTC Evo 4G Hacks says:

Could be some of apps you have, if you keep having trouble, try another ROM, there’s a ton for Evo 4G.

          • Tim says:

I’ve been running this ROM for a couple weeks. Only had to pull the battery one time. I had just switched to the Nexus live wallpaper and had it running for about a day when it locked up. I noticed the phone was hot. Did some research and found the EVO 4G is prone to over-heat reboots. But this occasion it was locked up. I stopped using the live wallpaper and have not had any more problems. This ROM has been working fine for me.

          • Jerrod says:

Download the nirtous rom. Its the best even when compared CM7

        • Ronnica says:

Sorry to ear that this ROM did not work for you, I also have this ROM and the only thing I have trouble with is the voice mail I get no notification that I have a voice mail outside of that it seems to be working fine. Have you thought abut re installing it?

  2. gnigga says:

the bluetooth is not working well

  3. Steve says:

I am in love with this custom ROM. It is really rocking

  4. jackhammer says:

has anyone tested snapturbo on this rom?

  5. Tim says:

Nice ROM. Seems to be quite stable. I have not been able to test 4G. No 4G service where I live.
I have used it for pictures and video. One thing I’ve noticed, Android task Manager, select “backup” and I get a message that it has stopped unexpectedly. Not sure if it’s the ROM, or a problem with the app.
All in all, a nice, stable ROM.

  6. Kristen says:

I have been Using digital karma for about a week now and i must say its a very stable rom, Bluetooth works great for me, Wifi is excellent, and the 3g and 4g work fantasticly, i used the sense 3g hack to bump up the speed as well as some scripts and i must say this is the most stable rom ive used (been Rooted for about a year now) It Rocks!!!!! ^_^

  7. JULIUS says:

I have been using karma for 3 days now its an awesome rom only problem is I cant get youtube videos to play and my rsttp and proxy settings are already at 0 & 0.0.0.0 is there anything else I can do to fix the problem?

  8. Jessica says:

I switched from this ROM to the Nitrous (http://htcevohacks.com/htc-evo-custom-rom/nitrous-rom-for-htc-evo-4g/) ROM..and I have to say it’s much better. Very fast, smooth and simple interface. LOVE it. The Nitrous ROM is a must have; great daily driver.

    • Aj says:

Hey Jessica, would you please let me know how u like the Nitrous ROM so far because i’m having a problems with Digital Karma where it doesn’t send pictures through text messages.

      Thank you

      • Zach says:

I was literally just about to suggest Nitrous to you, then I scrolled down a bit and saw this. LuLz

The only issue I have had is lock ups when my battery is between 40-30%. Other than that, I love it!

    • cardsandchips says:

I agree the Nitrous Oxide Rom has been my rom of choice for 6 months now.
I have flashed over 700 phones to Boost…that’s all I do!
The only problem is my GPS does not work with this Rom so if I need GPS I simply activate one of my S3 or Note 2 phones (flashed to Boost) on my test account and have the best of both worlds.

      • AlohafromHawaii says:

I’ve been running nitrous oxide for over 6 months. Everything works, including gps and 4G hotspot, great battery life too. Have not found a more stable rom.
        Aloha

  9. Max Nix says:

I haven’t used this, but I am using MikG 3.11 and it is stable and offers some nice tweaks. Not too bloaty either.

    • evo fan says:

I have had mikg 3.11 for 3 months now. I love the lay out of the ROM and the preinstalled tweaks just not very stable. And once I started doing the custom tweaks they got really bad. Ie I changed the battery icon color to change to red when charging and blue when off charger. Sometimes that whole side of the bar will be black. I also changed the color for the signal status to have it match the running color of the battery icon and wont even change. Also when i use the Google search bar on my home screen it also force closes when I try to search. I saw on the mik tweaks there was an update for the force closes and downloaded it and fixed it for a couple weeks then started doing it again. Any suggestions?

  10. frynkie says:

i’ve been using this ROM for about a month already… i never had any problems at first ever since these past two weeks my phone likes to randomly Hot restart then goes on a Boot loop. I’m gonna find another ROM to use

  11. Tim says:

My EVO goes into reboot cycles as well. Doesn’t seem to be related to any ROM. It’s happened while running several different ROMS. It is definitely heat related. run anything that does a lot of video action (like a movie or game) and the thing heats up and starts rebooting.

BTW – digitalKarma v8 is out. Just google digitalkarma rom and you should find it. I ran it for about 3 weeks until Max did the new energyROM review. Then I installed EnergyROM.

  13. Tom Jones says:

    Hey XDA,
I am curious. I just got this ROM in my email with you telling me to try it, how it rock! That’s dated today.

I read the reviews from the past couple of months and the consensus is thet this rom is not stable and it basically SUCKS!!!

    WTF?

  14. Travis says:

During the 1st reboot after flashing this rom, the phone has frozen at the intial “htc EVO 4G” screen. I froze there for over 20 mins, then i removed the battery to give it another reboot. This boot is has been stuck at the same screen for well over an hour. Any suggestions?

    • Zach says:

If it shows the splash screen (first image seen when booted) for more than two or three minutes, pull the battery. It is stuck. Try a different ROM, if a different ROM boots fine, then you will know its not the phone.

  15. Robert G says:

Updted v777 to v8 & now I’m unable 2 send or receive pics on my HTC Evo 4G! Anybody have any suggestions or than dumping v8 & revert back to v777?

  16. Robert G says:

Yo Max! Y do u have a deadend link on ur emails. Tried contacting U & got daemon failure msg.

  17. Opie says:

Upgraded from 777 hoping I could USB tether, and couldn’t turn on….. Grrr could be my settings or missing something, but I have checked many forums and the usual computer driver issues but not able to find the problem. Other than the enable on wireless networks settings say couldn’t turn on. Gonna try another rom, but I also had this issue on 777

  18. Julian says:

I’ve been running DigitalKarma V8 for approximately 7 days. The ROM is outstanding!!!

  19. Crispin says:

Just installed the DigitalKarma V8, haven’t had enough time to fully evaluate but have noticed the screen lock does not appear to work, workaround anyone?

  20. Luis says:

Hey there max. I recently installed this ROM and it has been working flawlessly except for one little detail. Sometimes instead of getting 3G i get 1x. Do you have any idea of why this could be happening and if so, is there any fix to it?

  21. Fer Puj says:

Best ever tried ……!!!!!! Got my Evo 4G in another dimension of a light and fast mod. Good job!!!!!!!!!

  22. Lupe Castro says:

How to change the color font to digitalkarma V9 ?

…. its hard to red the red lettering
