How to Install OMJ HTC Evo 2.1 Custom ROM on your HTC Evo 4G!

For those of you who have rooted your HTC Evo 4G and have been waiting for a new ROM, your wait is finally over as OMJ’s HTC Evo ROM is here!

What does it do?

The OMJ ROM comes with SuperUser 2.1, Wifi Tether, ROM Manager, Palringo, Ad Blocker, and Netflix.  OMJ’s ROM takes out Sprint apps but you can add them back in.

I know some of you have been struggling with 4G and/or wifi issues with the initial rooted ROM you installed.

Well this ROM is supposed fix all those issues so I highly suggest to use this ROM.

How to install OMJ ROM!

1. You must root your HTC Evo 4G first.  If you haven’t, follow the same steps in rooting your Evo 4G and use OMJ’s ROM (OMJ_EVO_2.1_Eclair_v1.3.zip) instead of the Supersonic_1.32.651.1_rooted.zip.

2. If you have rooted your HTC Evo 4G already, you can either use ROM Manager OR you can use the similar process as you did when rooting your phone by copying of OMJ ROM zip file to your SD card then running recovery-windows.bat file to enter into recovery to flash the new zip file.

3. Enjoy~  Let me know how it works!

And huge THANKS to OMJ!

Here’s a step-by-step video I took of install OMJ ROM for those of you who are using the command line method:

my mail reason for using tethering is that i work on computers i need an internet connection that is always with me.

    i’ll be patient.

So it says in the link that once you install the OMJ ROM you can get sprint firmware updates OTA without having to re-flash??? Is this correct?

  14. Solar says:

Thanks for the Rom. Works as advertised with one caveat. When I plug in an HDMI cable it freezes the phone. I have to pull out the battery and reboot. Got it from wireless4cheap on ebay. Anybody else have these issues. Could it be the ROM or the phone? Unfortunaly I did’t try the tv out function before i placed the rom on. Also it looks like OMJ’s newest Rom is out 1.4.
    Please advise.

  15. jason says:

There’s a good chance that the ‘palringo’ app that’s included in this rom will trip the security vices at facebook when you attempt to login to it. It’s not a big deal, just giving you a heads up =)

  16. ola says:

Unfortunately it doesn’t seem compatible with the Android Wifi Tether, why I had to revert back to Supersonic_1.32.651.1_rooted.zip

  17. Eric says:

The install went well but I also keep getting the message “Unable to start tethering. Please try again!” – Does anyone have any ideas why it doesn’t work?

  18. Eric says:

The install went well but I also keep getting the message “Unable to start tethering. Please try again!” – Does anyone have any ideas why it doesn’t work?

  19. Chris says:

I receive the same message as Eric. Do anyone know why there is a “Unable to start tethering. Please try again!”message?

  20. Chris says:

Excuse my poor English. I received* the same message as Eric. Does* anyone know why there is an “Unable to start tethering. Please try again!”message?

  21. Chris says:

I found a solution Eric. When you have the wifi tether open, try going to Menu->Setup->Menu->Reinstall binaries/configs.

  22. Joe P says:

Does anyone know if I should except the sprint updates or not?

    • HTC Evo 4G Hacks says:

Not if you’ve rooted the phone, DONT! Just wait for someone to upload a custom ROM with the updates.

  23. Eric says:

Chris – I was really excited to hear you found a solution. So I hit Menu-> on the phone then Setup-> on the screen, then Menu-> on the phone again and thats when the Reinstall binaries/configs came up on the screen. Once you hit that, the tethering works great!!!!! Thanks Chris, you just saved me a lot of headaches!

I could really use a “how to” on getting the sprint apps back, mainly nav and tv.

  27. Checho says:

If you have problems with the wifi tether all you have to do is delete the app, then go to the android market look for it, download it and it should work now, well it did at least for me 🙂
let me know it it works for yall
